"Employers now routinely check social media profiles of potential employees and continue to check them throughout employment. Photos of parties and drug use top the list of things that employers find on social networks that could cost you that job."--Christopher Geno, "How Your Facebook and Twitter Can Affect Your Job Search" CampusExplorer.com
DOs and DON'Ts of Social Networking
FOR EVERYONE
Avoid embarrassing photos.
Watch what you say.
FOR KIDS
Do not provide personal information.
If you don't know them, they are not your friend. (See: Stranger Danger)
Don't meet people you met online. (See: Stranger Danger)
Not everyone is who they claim to be.
Don't tweet angry (or blog, or post, etc.).
If you wouldn't say it the person's face, don't say it on the Internet. Anonymity provides you safety, but it shouldn't prevent common decency.
